Veterans Bills Pass of MN House Floor

Saint Paul – The Minnesota House of Representatives passed a package of veterans bills today on the house floor. Below is a list of the bills passed:
- HF 3522-Allows the Department of Veterans Affairs to close a Veterans Home if ordered to do so under a federal CMA order.
- HF 3532-Extends eligibility to National Guard and U.S. Military Reserve members for burial in state Veterans cemeteries.
- HF 3684-Places requirement for direct or competitive grants to nonprofits organizations whose grants are administered by the Department of Veterans Affairs.
- HF 3919- Adds Special Veterans status to the Special Guerilla Unit Task Force, which allows southeast Asians who served alongside U.S. Troops in the Vietnam war access to limited benefits.
- SF4807-Increases the base pay amount a National Guard member receives when the member is called to state active duty and anchors the base pay amount to the federal military pay tables.
- HF 4492-Puts in statute the Commanders Task Force, which is the umbrella group for the congressionally chartered Veterans organizations (American Legion, AMVETS, Disabled American Veterans, Jewish War Veterans, Marine Corps League, Military Order of the Purple Heart, Paralyzed Veterans of America, and VFW).
Veterans affairs GOP commmittee chair Representative Matt Bliss (R-Pennigton) released the following statement.
“This is a strong, comprehensive package of legislation that reflects our commitment to those who have served our country. From expanding burial eligibility for National Guard and Reserve members, to ensuring fair pay for those called to state active duty, and increasing accountability in how veterans-related funds are distributed, these bills take meaningful steps to support our veterans and their families. This is about honoring service, improving systems, and making sure no veteran is overlooked.”
These bills passed unanimously off the house floor.
