Representative Stier Statement on Gov. Walz’s Decision Not to Seek Reelection

St Paul. — State Representative Terry Stier (R-Belle Plaine) issued the following statement after Governor Tim Walz announced he will not seek reelection:

“Governor Walz’s decision not to run again may change the political calendar, but it does not change the record Minnesotans are left with.

The widespread fraud and mismanagement that occurred during this administration did not happen by accident or in isolation. Democratic leadership in Minnesota created and maintained the conditions that allowed taxpayer dollars to be misused on a massive scale. Responsibility for that failure goes beyond one individual.

As Democrats prepare to nominate a replacement, voters should be clear about what they are being offered. It’s sort of the devil you know situation. A new name at the top of the ticket does not mean a new approach to governing. Supporting another candidate from the same party, without real accountability or reform, risks continuing the same practices that led us here.

Minnesota deserves more than a reset without consequences. Restoring trust will require honest accountability, stronger oversight, and leadership that takes stewardship of taxpayer dollars very seriously.”
