Rep. Skraba Statement on Hibbing Taconite Mining Layoffs 

St. Paul, MN — Hibbing Taconite announced that 45 positions will be eliminated on February 1st as part of a restructuring based on operational needs. Representative Roger Skraba (R – Ely) issued the following statement in response. 

“This is deeply troubling news for the workers and families affected. My thoughts are with the union members who are now facing layoffs and uncertainty. Mining is the backbone of the Iron Range, and while this announcement is devastating, it does not diminish the strength, resilience, or importance of our mining communities. I have no doubt our communities will rally together, as they always do, to support one another during this difficult time. I encourage anyone impacted to reach out if there is any way I can help.”
