Rep. Olson’s Bills Pass on House Floor

Saint Paul – Today the Minnesota House of Representatives passed SF 4807 with amended house language and HF 3532, both authored by Rep. Bjorn Olson (R-Fairmont), off the house floor.
The amended SF 4807 increases the pay rates for both commissioned officers and enlisted members of the National Guard, who are participating in state active service.
“This bill is about recognizing the dedication and sacrifice of our National Guard members,” said Rep. Olson. “When they answer the call to serve our state, they deserve fair and competitive pay that reflects the critical role they play in keeping our communities safe.”
HF 3532 expands and clarifies burial eligibility to include National Guard or reserve members, along with their immediate families. While certain veterans and active-duty personnel receive cost-free interment, the state will implement a fee schedule for reserve components to cover administrative expenses.
“This bill ensures that those who have served in our National Guard and reserve forces, and the families who stand beside them, are treated with the dignity and recognition they deserve. As someone who is a reservist and already qualifies for veteran status, this change does not impact me personally. But it’s important to me that others who have served receive the same recognition and consideration. Expanding burial eligibility honors their commitment to our country, while establishing a fair structure to responsibly manage these services for the future.”
Both bills passed unanimously off the house floor.
