Rep. Natalie Zeleznikar Statement on February Budget Forecast

Representative Natalie Zeleznikar, R-Frendenberg Township, released the following statement on the February budget forecast.
“The latest forecast shows that Minnesota has the resources to provide meaningful relief. Tax hikes and new spending should be off the table. Instead, we should move forward with federal tax conformity and relief like eliminating taxes on tips and overtime to help workers and strengthen Main Street businesses.
Any surplus we have becomes an immediate deficit in just two years. What a structural imbalance of $3.7 billion really means, is the state spent more than it takes in and now the state is broke and you, the tax payer, do not want even higher taxes to bail out the state from this problem which was created by poor choices. Remember we had $18.5 billion just three years ago. If Minnesota wants to participate in the national economic rebound, we need pro-growth policies, real accountability, and a serious commitment to stopping fraud.”
