Rep. Lawrence statemen on Gov. Walz withdrawing his bid for reelection

St. Paul — State Representative Bryan Lawrence (R-Princeton.) issued the following statement in response to Governor Tim Walz announcing he will not seek reelection:

“With the governor’s decision not to run for an additional third term, it’s important to be honest about how this will change things moving forward and what it potentially means in the current climate of our state.

Governor Walz did not enable fraud alone. The scale of theft and mismanagement we are confronting today points to a broader, systemic failure within the Minnesota DFL. This is not a one-person problem. It’s a governing culture problem enabled by years of downplaying Republican concerns surrounding the spending of taxpayer dollars. There is still much work to be done to begin restoring financial solvency to our state.

As the Democrat Party begins lining up replacements in the race for governor, Minnesotans need to consider that anyone coming from that same bench carries responsibility for what happened. You do not preside over years of unchecked fraud without institutional complicity.

My commitment to the state of Minnesota and the constituents of my district is to continue being diligent in my work as a representative toward fiscal responsibility and respect for the hardworking citizens of Minnesota.”
