Rep. Josh Heintzeman Responds to Governor Walz’s Monday Statement

St. Paul — State Representative Josh Heintzeman (R-Nisswa) issued the following statement today in response to Governor Tim Walz announcing he will not seek reelection:

“Governor Walz’s statement announcing he will not seek reelection reads more like an attempt to manage optics than an honest reckoning with what has gone wrong under his administration.

Minnesotans are being asked to accept explanations instead of accountability, even as years of fraud, financial mismanagement, and oversight failures occurred on this governor’s watch. Stepping aside from a future campaign does not erase that record, and it does not answer the question of consequences.

With a replacement candidate still to be named, Minnesotans should be well aware that anyone the DFL puts forward carries the same baggage and the same lousy track record as Walz. Allowing the same party to take another turn at the wheel sends a dangerous message: that massive fraud and mismanagement are tolerated, so long as you claim to have addressed it.

Leadership is measured by accountability and results. If Minnesota wants different outcomes, it cannot expect them from the same party that presided over repeated failures. Restoring trust will require real consequences, real reforms, and leadership that takes stewardship of taxpayer dollars seriously.”
