Rep. Heintzeman Responds to Vote on Preserving Girls’ Sports Act (H.F. 12)

St. Paul — The Minnesota House of Representatives today voted on the Preserving Girls’ Sports Act (H.F. 12), legislation stating that only biological females may participate in girls’ school sports. The bill did not pass, with every House Democrat voting against it. The vote comes as the State of Minnesota is being sued by the U.S. Department of Justice for failing to comply with Title IX, the federal law that prohibits discrimination on the basis of sex in education programs receiving federal funding.
State Representative Josh Heintzeman (R-Nisswa) released the following statement:
“At the end of the day, this is about making sure girls have a fair shot. That’s why girls’ sports were set up the way they are in the first place, and most people understand that. It’s deeply disappointing to see House Democrats sacrifice the future of girls’ athletics over what amounts to ideological nonsense.”
Polling shows a strong majority of Minnesotans support this position. With the House tied, bipartisan support is required to pass legislation.
