Rep. Davids Addresses Fraud and Immigration

Hello from the State Capitol,
The 2026 Legislative Session has begun, and in the weeks ahead, and I expect several headlines to be made in the Minnesota House of Representatives.
Fraud is decimating our state, and stopping it has to be the legislature’s top priority this year. The administration has allowed this government theft to fester for far too long. The taxpayers demand action and we must deliver.
With at least $9 billion lost to people who have scammed the system, I believe a package of anti-fraud proposals will be brought forward this session. Included would be an independent Office of the Inspector General to investigate and prevent fraud, waste, and abuse in Minnesota – and would not be under the direct supervision of the Governor’s Office.
With the recent events in Minneapolis fresh in everyone’s mind, I would not be surprised if the House debates whether Minnesota should continue allowing sanctuary cities to exist. A bill exists that mandates any illegal alien arrested on suspicion of a violent crime, even in cases where the county attorney elects not to prosecute, be reported to ICE. Second, this bill prevents state and local government entities from actively prohibiting, restricting, or interfering with federal immigration authorities in carrying out federal immigration enforcement – effectively a ban on “sanctuary city” policies.
Last year, the Minnesota Supreme Court ruled that males who consider themselves a different gender have the right to compete on female teams. Because of this, expect the Preserving Girls’ Sports Act to receive debate this session, as passing it into state law would be the only way to maintain fairness and safety in girls’ sports.
