Rep. Bidal Duran Public Safety Bill Passes House

St. Paul  Legislation authored by State Representative Bidal Duran (R-Bemidji) to strengthen public safety, support law enforcement, and improve victim protections passed the Minnesota House today.

House File 3827 ensures local law enforcement agencies are reimbursed for the cost of major investigations, helping departments handle complex cases without straining local budgets. It also strengthens protections for victims and witnesses, including support for relocation and safety services in high-risk cases.

The legislation improves law enforcement access to orders for protection and no-contact orders, allowing for faster response in dangerous situations, and modernizes crime data collection to better align with federal standards.

“As a former law enforcement officer, I’ve seen where gaps in the system can make the job harder,” said Duran. “This bill takes practical steps to support the people on the front lines and make our communities safer.”

The bill now moves to the Senate for consideration.
