Rep. Andrew Myers Voices Concern Over State’s Infrastructure Priorities

St. Paul – Following the release of Governor Walz’s 2026 Infrastructure Plan, Representative Andrew Myers (R-Tonka Bay) released the following statement.
“Too often, elected officials in St. Paul fail to take the time to listen to local communities, shifting investments away from where our cities and neighbors need them most. This past summer, I had a front-row seat as a member of the Capital Investment Committee, where I saw firsthand the significant infrastructure needs facing communities across our state.
Before serving in the Legislature, I was a city council member and planning commission chair in the west metro. That local experience gives me a clear understanding of how infrastructure decisions impact residents, property taxes, and long-term community growth.
Unfortunately, a recent executive branch infrastructure proposal allocates just $35 million for local community projects statewide, far short of what is needed. I continue to advocate for investments in essential local infrastructure, including water treatment plants, 60- to 100-year-old stormwater and sewer systems, roads, and the many bridges in and around the Lake Minnetonka area.
These financial investments are not short-term fixes. They are long-term commitments with regional significance. Strong local infrastructure supports economic growth, protects water quality, ensures public safety, and benefits not only individual cities but the entire metropolitan region.
Many of our communities have already stepped up to address these challenges, often resulting in higher property taxes for residents over many years. Now, they are asking the state to be a true partner by investing in the long-term health and sustainability of our region.
I will continue working to ensure local projects are prioritized, including critical needs in Minnetonka Beach, Mound, Minnetrista, Tonka Bay, Shorewood, Excelsior, and more. These communities deserve real consideration when funding decisions are made.
I call on Governor Walz to partner with me, my Senator, and these communities to address the pressing infrastructure needs facing so many suburban cities across Minnesota.”
