House Republicans Statement on 2026 Legislative Session

St. Paul, MN — House Speaker Lisa Demuth, R-Cold Spring, and Republican Floor Leader Harry Niska, R-Ramsey, released the following statements after the conclusion of the 2026 legislative session, where House Republicans secured more than $400 million in tax relief for Minnesotans, delivered major anti-fraud reforms including the creation of an Independent Office of Inspector General, advanced school safety measures, and fought to bring greater accountability to state government and affordability for Minnesota families.
“This biennium is an absolute win for Minnesotans,” said Speaker Demuth. “After two years of one-party Democrat control, family budgets were hurting and small businesses were struggling. With the House Republican wins this year, Minnesotans will see real relief in their property taxes and car tab fees, they’ll see spending on state government go down, and they’ll see real action against fraudsters stealing from the people who need our help the most.”
Leader Niska added, “Over the last two years, House Republicans worked to restore balance and accountability to state government after the Democrat trifecta rapidly expanded spending, taxes, and mandates. Despite holding just one-half of one-third of state government, Republicans stopped billions in proposed tax increases, delivered property tax and car tab relief, advanced anti-fraud measures, and invested in school safety and public infrastructure. House Republicans proved that when we have a seat at the table, Minnesota families have an advocate fighting to make life more affordable, hold fraudsters accountable, and make this state a better place to live, work, and raise a family.”
