House GOP statement on girls' sports ruling - Minnesota House Republicans

ST. PAUL – Following the Supreme Court’s decision that female-only sports are constitutional, House Speaker Lisa Demuth, R-Cold Spring, and House GOP Leader Harry Niska, R-Ramsey, released the following statement.

“This decision is a win for fairness and safety in girls’ and women’s sports,” said Speaker Demuth. “With this precedent, and the support of the vast majority of Minnesotans, it’s time to stand up for fairness, safety, and opportunity for Minnesota’s female athletes. House Republicans have been fighting for common sense protections for girls’ sports, and the fight is not over yet.”

Leader Niska added, “The Supreme Court got this ruling right—states have the right to protect girls’ sports, and Minnesota should be next. House Republicans have been saying this from the beginning: girls’ sports should be for girls. Unfortunately, Governor Walz and legislative Democrats remain out of step with the overwhelming majority of Minnesotans who believe fairness in women’s sports is worth protecting. It’s time for them to stop blocking this basic, commonsense protection.”
