House GOP Leaders Respond to News of a State Grant Being Introduced for Nonexistent Company

ST. PAUL – Following an explosive KSTP story about legislation for a state grant being introduced and tailored to a company before it even existed, which DEED paid out even after the company missed deadlines, Speaker Lisa Demuth and Leader Harry Niska released the following statement:

“Once again we find a company getting funding from Minnesota Democrats under questionable circumstances,” said Demuth. “With full control of state government, they pushed through grant funding for a company that didn’t even exist. Nothing about this situation looks legitimate, and every Minnesotan should be concerned about their hard-earned tax dollars being squandered in this way.”

Niska added, “This is exactly what Minnesotans are tired of – Democrats writing legislation to fund nonexistent companies. That is completely unacceptable. The timing of this funding raises major questions about why it was so narrowly tailored for this one business before it was even founded and why it was paid out after missing reporting deadlines and falling short on progress. This looks like corruption to any reasonable person.”
