Dotseth returns to Capitol to start 2026 session

ST. PAUL – Minnesota’s 2026 legislative session began Tuesday and Rep. Jeff Dotseth, R-Kettle River, said it’s good to be back at the Capitol working for District 11A residents with crucial issues on tap for the coming months.

“There is a lot of work ahead for the 2026 session, from addressing local issues to tackling our state’s massive fraud problem,” Dotseth said. “There are major weaknesses in oversight that need to be addressed. Minnesotans are generous people who want to help those in need, but they also expect strong safeguards to ensure taxpayer dollars are used properly. Each dollar lost to fraud is a dollar not available for hungry children, families in crisis, individuals experiencing homelessness, or children with autism who rely on these services.

“I also expect important discussions on election integrity and fairness in girls sports to happen. We also need to take a closer look at sanctuary policies in Minnesota, particularly how our state government and some of our most activist-led counties and cities refuse to cooperate with federal law enforcement. These are complex issues, and I believe thoughtful, respectful dialogue is essential as we work toward solutions. I’m proud of the results we delivered for our area last year and I am looking to build on those successes this year.”

Dotseth said House Republicans recently shared a list of overarching priorities for the 2026 legislative session. They include:
-Stop the Fraud
-Make Minnesota Affordable
-Make Minnesota Safe
-Raise Standards, Reduce Mandates
-Make Minnesota Competitive
-Minnesota Tax Dollars for Minnesotans

Dotseth continues to serve as co-vice chair of the Housing Finance and Policy Committee and remains a member of the Commerce Finance and Policy Committee.

He said he welcomes correspondence throughout the session and encourages District 11A residents to call (651) 296-4308 or email rep.jeff.dotseth@house.mn.gov to get in touch.
