Davis Amendment Adds Oversight to State Grant Exceptions

St. Paul – Representative Ben Davis, R-Merrifield, successfully offered an amendment to House File 4462 last night to add more oversight to Minnesota’s state grant process.
The bill requires a standard summary page for state grant Requests for Proposal so applicants can more easily understand grant opportunities. Davis’ amendment requires the commissioner to report each approved exception to statewide grants management rules to the legislative chairs and ranking minority members with jurisdiction over the agency.
“Minnesota has a serious fraud problem, and it starts when state government lets agencies operate outside the rules without accountability,” Davis said. “If an exception is approved, the Legislature needs to know about it. Taxpayers deserve watchdogs, not rubber stamps.”
The amendment also updates language in the statute to align with similar grant oversight terminology.
House File 4462, as amended, passed the Minnesota House last night.
