Backer Responds to Governor Walz Terminating Reelection Effort and New OLA Findings

St. Paul- Representative Jeff Backer (R-Browns Valley) issues a statement in response to this weeks news of Governor Walz terminating his bid for an unprecedented third term and the OLA’s audit of the Behavioral Health Administration (BHA).

“The fraud epidemic in state government is systemic and goes far beyond any one individual. It’s the result of nearly two decades of Democrat governors, backed by their legislative allies, creating a culture of complacency and weak oversight. Simply swapping in a new face to run the same broken machine will only produce the same results, more waste, more fraud, and higher costs for Minnesota taxpayers.”

“The OLA audit report of BHA this week was just another example of fraud mismanagement, and lack of accountability that is allowed under the Walz administration. The audit found that funds were distributed in violation of grant management policies, and that individuals involved in grant oversight created records after the audit began to support those payments. Once again, the Walz administration has turned a blind eye to fraud, waste, and abuse in state programs.”
