Rep. Jeff Backer Statement on HR 1 Conformity in Health Bill

Saint Paul – GOP Health Chair Representative Jeff Backer (R-Browns Valley) released the following statement about the end of session health bill and federal HR 1 conformity.
“I am happy that we were able to pass the health bill off the floor with HR 1 conformity. If we hadn’t complied Minnesota would have an estimated $3.5 billion annual financial penalty to the state, potentially forcing significant tax increases on Minnesota families. Along with HR 1, was Medicaid work requirements which Republicans have been fighting for for years. This will make sure that Medicaid resources are protected for those who truly need them while encouraging able-bodied adults to work, pursue education, or participate in job training in exchange for benefits. Overall this bill had many strong conservative wins and I am glad we were able to pass it.”
