Rep. Bakeberg’s Child Safety Bill Passes Minnesota House

Saint Paul, MN –The Minnesota House of Representatives passed H.F. 4384, legislation authored by Rep. Ben Bakeberg, R-Jordan, to strengthen abusive head trauma training requirements for child care providers.
The bill updates Minnesota’s existing training requirements to ensure abusive head trauma training is interactive, rather than limited to simply reading materials or watching videos. Abusive head trauma is a severe form of child abuse that can cause brain injury in infants and young children, often through violent shaking or blunt impact.
“Training matters, especially when adults are caring for infants and young children,” Bakeberg said. “Providers are already required to receive this training. H.F. 4384 simply makes sure it is meaningful, interactive, and focused on helping prevent tragedies before they happen. This bill costs nothing, but it could mean the difference between life and death.”
Bakeberg thanked his constituents Brendan and Crystal McNally, founders of Never Shake MN, for bringing the idea forward and advocating for stronger protections for children and families across Minnesota. H.F. 4384 now awaits further action in the legislative process.
