SF 2971 Passes on the House Floor

Saint Paul- Senate File 2971 authored by Rep. Bjorn Olson (R-Fairmont) passed unanimously off the house floor yesterday. This bill requires the collection and analysis of bridge-related suicide data to better understand trends and identify high-risk locations. It also directs the development of best practices for suicide prevention on bridges, ensuring that future policies and projects are informed by proven strategies.

“This legislation is about saving lives,” said Rep. Olson. “By taking a data-driven approach and implementing proven safety measures, we can better protect our communities and ensure that our infrastructure reflects a commitment to mental health. Every life matters, and this is a meaningful step toward making our public spaces safer and preventing tragedies before they happen.”

This initiative reflects a proactive commitment to public safety and mental health, combining research, prevention strategies, and infrastructure improvements to help save lives.
