Suburban Solutions Caucus Launches “Dollars & Sense Initiative” to Lower Costs for Minnesota Families

St. Paul – Members of the Suburban Solutions Caucus today announced the 2026 Dollars & Sense Initiative, a legislative affordability package focused on lowering everyday costs for Minnesota families and strengthening the state’s economic competitiveness.
The initiative prioritizes practical solutions that help families keep more of what they earn while addressing some of the most significant financial pressures facing households across Minnesota.
“Our goal is simple,” said Andrew Myers. “Minnesota families deserve policies that make it easier to afford childcare, stay in their homes, and manage rising everyday expenses. The Dollars & Sense Initiative focuses on real solutions that improve affordability now and into the future.”
The Dollars & Sense Initiative includes proposals such as:
• Cap increases in property taxes
• Reduce car tab fees
• Return surplus dollars to taxpayers through refund checks
• Lower health care and energy costs
• Improve childcare affordability and access for working families
Together, these efforts reflect the caucus’s commitment to addressing the real financial pressures facing suburban households and communities across Minnesota.
At the same time, caucus members expressed concern about proposals being discussed at the Capitol that would increase financial burdens on residents, including what has been described as a “Force Out Tax.” Supporters of the Dollars & Sense Initiative warn such proposals risk accelerating out-migration and making Minnesota less affordable for grandparents, families, and small business owners.
“While we are working to lower costs and return surplus dollars to taxpayers, others are advancing policies that could make Minnesota more expensive and drive families to consider leaving the state,” Myers said. “We believe Minnesota should be a place where families can afford to stay, work, build their future, and enjoy their retirement.”
The Suburban Solutions Caucus will continue advancing legislation this session focused on targeted affordability relief, economic stability, and policies that support working families across suburban communities.
“Our caucus is committed to focused affordability solutions that help Minnesotans today,” Myers added. “That’s what the Dollars & Sense Initiative delivers.”
